Mount Huangshan is located in southern Anhui Province with an area of 250 kilometers. Its landscape is famous for its“four wonders”- amazing peaks, spectacular rocks, featuring pines, and a sea of clouds. Mt. Huangshan boasts 72 peaks, over 1,000 meters above sea level. The pines on the mountain are tall and have spectacular shapes. The famous 1500-year-old Welcoming Guests Pine and See-Guest-Off Pine have become a symbol of Mt.Huangshan for being hospitable. Mt. Huangshan has over 200 misty and cloudy days each year. The vapors coagulate to produce a sea of clouds. As the clouds cover the mountain, they make you feel you are in fairyland. In 1990. Mt. Huangshan was listed as the world cultural and natural heritage.

Hongcun Village is lying at the foot of the southwest side of Mt. Huangshan, only 11 kilometers away from Yixian town and and 65 km away from Mt.Huangshan. It is a buffalo-shaped ancient village.
In the Song dynasty ((960–1279), the villagers built an irrigation canal entering every houses. So lamost all households in the village are easily connected to the canal. The waterways of the village were meant to be made to offer a sourse of washing water, even fire water in case of emergency. Its construction resembles a baffalo's body structure. All the buildings are made in line with the local architectural style with exquisite carvings and magnificent symbols of that time.
The village boasts nice scenery - simple but elegant, a fine mixture of old houses, green hills and clear creeks. Hongcun Village has always enjoyed the name "a village in the Chinese painting". The village still has 158 dwelling houses dating back to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, nearly 140 are still in good shape. Hongcun Village was listed as the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2000.
