To the northwest of the Bell Tower, across from the Bell Tower and Drum Tower Square, the Drum Tower is located at the end of a lively street in the Muslim Quarter. Built in 1380 the 13th year during the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming，it occupies and area of 1，999 square meters and is 33 metres high.Upon completion， a huge drum was installes in the tower.When night fell，the drum was beaten to tell the hour.It is regarded as the sister tower of the Bell Tower，known together as Morning Bell and Evening Drum.
