Lhasa with an altitude of 3658 meters is one of the cities on highest altitude in world. Lhasa has a plateau-temperate-semiarid monsoon climate. Its annual sunlight is above 3000 hours, so Lhasa has a good name of "Sunlight City" or "Sun City". Lhasa located in southeast of the Tibetan central part has four distinct seasons. Lhasa has low air pressure and lack of oxygen, low temperature and much gale. The difference in temperature in a day is very big. The highest temperature in a day is 28℃ and the lowest temperature is -14 ℃. Lhasa monthly average temperature in June is 15.7℃ and June is the month with highest temperature. Monthly average temperature in January is -2℃and average lowest is -9.7 ℃. January is the month with lowest temperature in Lhasa. There is not high temperature in summer, so Lhasa in summer is a nice summer resort. Lhasa has little rainfall, but it also has two distinct dry and wet seasons. In wet season, the rainfall is concentrated at night. Rainfall of Lhasa is mostly centralized in July, August and September. So summer and fall is warm and humid in Lhasa; and winter is dry and cold.
Because of such a weather and air condition, many people are easy to catch altitude sickness. Weak people must prepare oxygen bags and medicines for fighting back altitude sickness. As there is strong solar radiation in Lhasa, high-power sun block, sun glass and sunshades or topees are necessary. Then tourists should get ready of enough clothes to cope with the big difference in temperature. From July to September is the best time for Lhasa traveling.
