Stanley Market is one of the must-go places for tourists when they visit Hong Kong. You will find an interesting array of little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, Chinese costume jewelry and souvenirs. While a bit "touristy" if you are a tourist it will certainly help you to cross off all the items on your souvenirs-to-buy-Aunt-Jane shopping list. A hard morning of shopping is also nicely finished off by a good lunch at one of the many restaurants, which are the reason that Hong Kong locals also frequent the area.

Stanley has been a fishing village since before the British came to Hong Kong.
The busy market has always attracted people but now you don"t go there to buy fish, but to get t-shirts other tourist things.
That is after all the main reason you go to Stanley -- be aware that though the market is busy and interesting place to buy things it is of course mainly for tourists. Therefore take due care that what you are buying is correct and not a cheapie made for tourists.
This is not the place to go buying valuable antiques! Do that in Hollywood road in instead.
