Geographical PositionHarbin is considered as the "Icy City". Harbin is the provincial capital of Heilongjiang Province, and also the largest city in Heilongjiang. Harbin lies on the southern bank of Songhua River, northeast of China. The figure of Heilongjiang looks like a swan, and Harbin is considered as "the Pearl of the Swan"s Neck".

Weather
Harbin is the most northeastern and coldest provincial capital in China. Harbin belongs to warm continental monsoon climate. It has four distinct seasons with long cold winter and short cool summer. Rainfall here is pretty minimal.
History
Before 1896, Harbin was a fishing village. Harbin was influenced by Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. The Qing Dynasty conceded a rail concession to the Russians who built a railroad from Vladivostok to Harbin and on to Dalian. Then Russia lost the control of the railway because of the Russo-Japanese war. In 1923, the Japanese occupied Harbin until the Soviets took it in 1945. In 1946,Harbin was turned over to China. Harbin today is a large industrial city.
Local Products
Since Heilongjiang Province borders on Russia, many goods in Russia are also in Heilongjiang. This influence in Harbin is shown obviously. The mainly local products in Harbin are Chum Salmon, Harbin Sausage, Marten, Frozen fruits, Longjiang agate, etc.
