Guiyang Travel Guide
Geographical Position
Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou, is located at the east of the Yungui Plateau, and on the north bank of the Nanming River, a branch of the Wu River.

Area
Guiyang has a total area of 8,034 square kilometers, with the average altitude of about 1,100 meters.

Population
The census in the year 2007 shows that it has a population of 3.5982 million.

Nationalities
As a multi-nationalities city, Guiyang is home to 36 minority ethnic groups including Hui, Miao, Buyi, Shui, Yao, Bai and Dong apart from Han. Miao and Buyi account for 77.7 percent of the total minority populations.

Guiyang has a subtropical monsoon climate with plenty of sunlight and rainfall. The seasons are not particularly distinct with fairly mild winter and warm summer.

History
Guiyang was first constructed during Yuan Dynasty with the name of “Shunyuan”. In Ming Dynasty, the town became the seat of a superior prefecture named Guiyang. Until the Sino-Japanese War, Guiyang was no more than the capital of one of China”s least-developed provinces. After 1949, Guiyang began to develop fast, and became a major provincial city and industrial base.
